CCC Techs Impact on Life Discussion

Technology has dramatically changed the work we do and our lifestyles, how we do our work, how our work is measured and monitored, and what do we do for fun. During the Covid pandemic, it has changed even more so. Think about 100 years ago, in the fall of 1917. Did your job (previous job) exist, or hobbies? How was it different? How was it the same? How about 50 years ago? 25 years ago? 10 years ago? How do you think it will change in the next 10 years?

The Industrial Revolution moved society from cottage industries and handmade products to factories and mass production. Technology has been shifting the economies of nations away from production towards service industries. How has this shift changed what we do? How will it continue to change what we do?

Do you see computers and technology as a benefit to your job and lifestyle? Do you see it as a hinderance?

Technology has vastly improved efficiency of productivity tenfold. It has made it possible to support cities as large as Los Angeles and countries as large as China. It has changed the world climate but given us a glimpse into the universe. However, not all the changes that technology has brought has been positive. With the rise of smartphones, and the internet, many people have felt an increase in mental health issues. Now it could be the case that we are now being made aware of these issues, but even in this case the rise in mental health issues as a result of technology cannot be ignored. Smartphone usage has given a rise to social inexperience, especially in younger generations that haven’t lived in a world pre-technology.

Technology has gone so far that even going outside the home has become vestigial. Groceries? Can be easily delivered, Income? There are many ways to be able to work from home. Socialization? You can communicate with anyone, at anytime, so long as you have a smartphone or even just an internet connection and a computer. Entertainment, streamed live with more options than you could ever realistically watch. It isn’t healthy to live in this manner. Covid taught us that, but it is possible. Something that 100 years ago would likely be unthinkable for most people, is now possible with the advent of technology.

People need to be educated today more than ever about the power of technology, but more importantly. the issues they can cause. For as wonderful as technology has become now, we must be careful to not overuse and misuse technology. This problem won’t go away in the coming years, actually it is likely to get worse as technology gets better. So people in the world need to be careful, because as much as technology is seamlessly integrated into our lives, people still need to feel the sunlight on their face.

The benefits of technology was something I used to always take for granted. I was fortunate to be born in 2002, when the Internet was already somewhat developed, and computers were becoming more accessible in the home of families. I grew up raised by the internet, surfing the indispensable amount of websites, forums, and content on the internet. Through this, I discovered some of my most passionate hobbies like videogames, music, and fashion. The access to the internet and computers at such a young age showed me the insurmountable amount of opportunities this new world had in store. In contrast to my relatives, who didn’t have access to computers at a young age, I was more technologically advanced. The knowledge at the world was just one search engine away. Nowadays, we all have computers in the palm of our hands, our smart phones. We utilize these devices in a multitude of ways, we use them to make payments, communicate with others through text, call, or email, take pictures and videos, check our bank statements, and so much more. In this day and age, it is near impossible to function in a society without access to one. As technology is only advancing, in the near future, a lot of services that typically require human ability can soon be replaced by technology. Similar to how in the Industrial Revolution, society shifted from handmade products to mass production. Another way I see how computers shifted society, is that we as a society now communicate with each other on a global scale. That being said, computers and technology are more off a benefit to my job and lifestyle than a hinderance.
