Family Genogram Assignment

Construct a three-generation genogram to illustrate a family being assessed. Request permission from the adults in the family to develop your genogram. A genogram is a format for drawing a family tree that records information about family members and their relationships over at least three generations. Genograms display family information graphically in a way that provides a quick view of complex family patterns and a rich source of hypotheses about how a health problem may be connected to the family context. The family you use for this assignment will also be the family you will use to complete your Family Assessment Paper, due during Week 5.

There are many ways you can create and submit this assignment. If you have a Google account, Google Docs has a tool called Google Draw that allows you to draw using squares, circles, and text. If you use this tool, simply save your drawing as a PDF or JPG to your desktop and upload to submit. (Please, do not submit the .gdraw file type!) PowerPoint is another tool that you can use that allows you to create squares, circles, and text. Develop your genogram on one slide of your presentation, and save it as a PDF or JPG and upload to submit. Click here to access Microsoft Support for help. (Links to an external site.)

Finally, you can draw your genogram out with a pen and paper. Once you have completed the drawing, either scan the document or take a picture of the document and submit.
