: This assignment is due by ______________. The entire assignment should be at least one (1) page in length, following appropriate APA formatting, using one inch margins and Times New Roman 12 point font ONLY. Five valid sources must be used for this assignment.
The purpose of this assignment is to help you plan out your final project. Specifically, you will be creating an outline of your final project throughout this assignment. Be sure to include the following information:
Rough Introduction: What is the general hypothesis? Why does this need to be explored? How has previous research addressed this (or failed to address this)? Define the scope of the problem/concern/issue, and make a strong case as to why your topic is necessary in the field of research. Be specific, be clear, and make it known exactly where you intend to go in the paper.
General outline for the body of the paper: Include information from your sources that “brings together” what we know so far about the topic. Be sure to speak about how these articles are helping you develop your own idea related to the topic. This section is nothing more than support for your ideas. It is recommended to have a cohesive list of ideas here, and which article(s) support that idea. Remember – DO NOT SUMMARIZE. DO NOT QUOTE. DO NOT ENDLESSLY REGURGITATE the articles. These are issues that will change the scope of the assignment into something completely different!
General conclusion: Wrap it up! Conclude your outline – this will help you plan a clear conclusion for your paper. Summarize key points, and state your hypothesis in a clear and direct fashion.
General things to remember: This is to help you create the final assignment. The final assignment is a portion of a research proposal. A research proposal is where you provide some background information and propose going forward to further test this area of research that is lacking. It cannot be written in first person, cannot include opinion/anecdotal information, and must include scientific research articles (journal articles). Other sources are not permitted.
Please write this up in DETAILED outline format. I do not want an essay in response – it must be a thoroughly detailed outline. Submitting four short sentences, for example, will result in a zero for this assignment. I expect meticulous detail.
Literature Review Outline – Video Game Example
Once you know what you’re writing about, have an effective thesis statement, and a solid collection of work to reference, it’s time to begin outlining your literature review.
I – INTRODUCTION
- a. Summary of topic. Give a brief overview of your chosen field, and introduce the topic you’ve decided to discuss within that field. In staying with our example, you could talk about the game industry’s general lack of female characters, and the way male audiences are favored over female ones.
- b. Thesis statement. Here, you will offer up your thesis statement, wrapping up your summary of the topic and identifying the trend you’re going to examine. Just as our sample thesis statement did previously, you would use this area to identify a possible changing point for the game industry, and how certain independent game developers are working to change the status quo.
II – FIRST THEME Here, you’ll provide an overview of your first theme, discuss the way it emerges in your chosen field, and discuss relevant texts as reference. Let’s say here you choose to discuss the acknowledgement of female characters in video games over the last few years.
- a. Sub-theme. You need to break your theme up into parts, to make it easily comprehensible. That is, after all, the point of this. Here, you’ll discuss a facet of your theme, and talk about how that one part helps make up the whole. In sticking with our example, we could talk about ways game developers have chosen to simply add female playable characters in addition to males, and cite the appropriate texts that have examined this trend.
- b. Sub-theme. Continue citing facets of your primary theme. Here, perhaps you could talk about the ways games have chosen to create female characters with practical designs, keeping them equal to their male counterparts. You could cite relevant developer logs, journals, essays, and lectures about this topic.
- c. Sub-theme. Have as many body paragraphs as you need to discuss your point.
III – SECOND THEME Have as many main body paragraphs as you need to cover all aspects of your theme. Continue the example from above.
IV – CONCLUSION You want your conclusion to be a couple paragraphs long, in which you wrap up your discussion, and also point out some of the strengths and weaknesses of the literature and texts you’ve chosen to examine.
student sample : Postpartum Depression Literature Review
- INTRODUCTION
- Summary- I chosen the dads vs moms after birth and how dads are just as likely to get postpartum depression. Postpartum is a topic not commonly talked about unlike many other mental health issues because everyone looks at having a baby as a joyous time in life.
- Thesis Statement- My thesis statement is “Fathers are just as likely if not at a higher risk to develop postpartum depression.” I will be examining how men should be screened for PPD and not left out. I will be showing how much the dads have on their plates when the baby comes and not just the mom.
- FIRST THEME
- Sub theme- When thinking about how dads are just as or more susceptible of getting Postpartum Depression. Even though it is such a possibility man are not screened like moms are. (Article 1 and 6)
- Sub theme- Men do not have checkups with their doctors after they become new fathers like moms do. Moms also must take surveys for the first few months after giving birth, but the dads never have to take the surveys. Mothers are constantly asked how they are doing but the fathers are just told good job. (Article 1 and 4)
- SECOND THEME
- Sub theme- Fathers and mothers have different types of symptoms (article 2) because the mom has body issues and issues in her private area.
- Sub theme- Symptoms can show up for the same reasons between the mother and fathers (article 3 and 5) but fathers tend to hide the symptoms better because guys are grown up not to show weaknesses.
- CONCLUSION
- This is where I talk about how much we can do ensure fathers do not go untreated and get better care like mothers. We can talk about how to take more precautions and ways to prevent fathers from suffering from postpartum depression. Some weaknesses with when trying to find information about father postpartum depression.
second thing :
Describe how the following studies could be performed both qualitatively and quantitatively:
Ø The impact of hoarding behaviors on a family (list both ways!)
Ø Examination of addictive behaviors in “helicopter parents.” (list both ways here, too)
These concepts can be found in chapter 6
third :
Remember, the intent is to connect the material with your own experience outside of this class. You need both parts of this equation for credit (evidence of the course concepts and your relevant experience). If you are struggling to connect the content to your life, consider this question (example – only use this question if you have this experience): Has there ever been a time in your life when you were really successful at staying focused and on-task despite distractions around you; yet at other times you have had trouble staying on task because of things around you demanding your attention? (My language choice there might have been biased by the calls of “Mommy” from my child while I type this…) What was different about the situations that led to better attentional control, and what does this have to do with Working Memory?
Remember: to earn credit for your post (1) must be about this week’s material; (2) must connect to life outside of the course; (3) correctly use concepts and terms; and be (4) posted by the end of the week for the associated module.
Further, this week’s question is also a requiredassignment to be submitted as a Word (.docx) or Rich Text Format (.rtf) document to the “Working Memory Discussion Question for Program Assessment.”
fourth :
Read the questions listed on Blackboard and write about each. Using both your textbook and your personal opinions to support your answers, be sure to use citations and a reference page. Responses must be submitted typed and double-spaced, using Times New Roman 12-point font. No cover page is necessary. You will need your name in the corner of the paper. Be sure to use proper APA formatting. Submissions must be a minimum of two pages. A rubric is also provided on Blackboard.
What do you think about the ability of nonhuman animals to solve problems?
Is mind real or only an idea?
Try to describe the feeling of a strong emotional state you have experienced without referring to any bodily changes.
If you explain that a certain behavior is a result of an instinct, have you explained that behavior?
What is intelligence? How could it be measured?
Why assume that learning causes behavior? What is the evidence? How could this hypothesis be tested?
